The Recurring World Rapid Chess Champion!

The grandmaster, Magnus Carlsen, excels not only in classic chess tournaments but he is also a champion in rapid chess.

This is the fourth time he has claimed the crown in rapid chess. In the 2022 Fide World Rapid Chess Championship, he won with a commanding score of 10/13.

The Rapid Chess Tournament was held in Almaty, Kazakhstan, from the 26-28 of December.

Magnus Carlsen: The Chess Grandmaster

The World Rapid Chess Champion

Magnus Carlsen is the reigning five-time World Chess Champion as well as the four-time Rapid Chess Champion and six-time World Blitz Chess Champion.

He is a Norwegian Chess Grandmaster who is the current number 1 face in world chess tournaments. His peak chess rating is at 2882. And he holds the record for the longest unbeaten streak at the elite level.

Magnus Carlsen was born in 1990 and is now 32 years old.

Carlsen was a prodigy from when he was a child. He was the youngest player to surpass the rating of 2800 at just 18 years old.

Carlsen first became the world champion in 2013 by defeating the grandmaster Viswanathan Anand.

He is the first ever chess grandmaster to hold all three titles of Rapid Chess, Blitz Chess and the World Chess Champion simultaneously.

Carlsen remains unbeaten because of his many different innovative chess openings. He has developed a variety of different openings to make it difficult for his opponents to prepare against him. This also minimizes the risk of computers predicting his moves.
According to him, the middlegame in chess is the best part of chess as it “comes down to pure chess.”

What about the World Chess Championship of 2023?

Unfortunately, Magnus Carlsen will not be competing in the 2023 world chess championships. After holding the grandmaster title for so long, I think he has proved enough to the world.

The only other person to hold the championship title for so long is Garry Kasparov, who held the title for 15 years.

So Magnus Carlsen will not be defending his title against the world No.2 Ian Nepomniachtchi.

In the absence of Carlsen, Ian Nepomniachtchi will compete against the No. 3 title holder Ding Liren, the highest-rated Chinese chess player ever.

Who is the World Rapid Chess Champion?

The world Rapid Chess Champion of 2022 is Magnus Carlsen. He is the only simultaneous title holder of the World Chess Champions, the Rapid Chess Champion and the Blitz Chess Champion.

But despite being at the peak of his career, Magnus has announced that he will not play at the championships of 2023.
